Sadly, if you were to ask random people on the street to finish  this statement you might be offended by the way they chose to say .  In fact, there are people out there who may use some questionable language to describe what “church is like”.  Why is that?  Why do people have such a deep, dark hatred for “church”?  Well, okay, do you like church?  Is church fun?  Should it be?  If you asked a group of people my Nana’s age why they went to church they would most likely respond with something along the lines of, “because we are told to”.  If you asked people my parent’s age the same question, they would respond with something like this, “Because we are called to meet with other Christians”.   I mean, I know people who still refer to the Church of Christ as, “THE CHURCH”.  None of these are particularly bad, just different, and interesting because of those differences.  Our idea of church is a direct correlation to past church experience (growing up etc…), our God-view and our understanding of the importance of community (good or bad).

Church is never going to be what God intended until WE can get past seeing it as a chore, a requirement, a concert, a social gathering or a visit to the principal’s office.  How can we do this?  Well, here are 5 rules that Kyle Idleman  from the City on a Hill community of believers suggests to follow when looking for a church.

1. No One stands Alone

2.No perfect People Allowed

3.No Part-Time Worship

4.No Masks Allowed

5.No Irrelevant Teaching

Do these seem familiar?  Can you see these in your church?  Can you see these in yourself?  These rules are not for you to use against a person or a church, but instead they are meant to help you fix somethings in your church experience or your church home.
